ReCulture: Erasmus+ Project

Updated: Aug 8, 2022

On January 13th, the second online meeting for ReCulture: Breaking Cultural Barriers through Sports.

It was lovely to connect with friends, new and old and discuss plans for this worthwhile project. The aim is to promote a social entrepreneurial mindset that promotes grassroots integration programmes through sport.

Over the next two years, we will work with organisations from Cyprus, Portugal, the Czech Republic, and Greece to:

  • Conduct a good practice survey to understand how community organisations can optimise sports programmes for integration.

  • Develop a curriculum that will bring together all the knowledge and materials needed to develop and implement youth sports programmes that inspire integration.

  • Develop an in-service training programme to ensure that the training curriculum is accessible for community agents to implement in their communities successfully.

  • Develop a Policy Paper to present to key stakeholders and policymakers that affirms sports as a gateway to cultural integration at European and national levels.

A few weeks later, on February 8th, Teach Solais hosted the ReCulture consortium and held our first Transnational Partner Meeting. Overlooking Dublin’s iconic Ha’penny Bridge and the River Liffey, partners from Cyprus, Portugal, the Czech Republic, and Greece met to discuss the RECulture: Breaking Cultural Barriers through Sports, Erasmus+ project.

The one-day meeting was both productive and enjoyable, with the consortium proficiently making our way through the schedule and developing plans that will be implemented over the next two years.

It was a pleasure to meet this passionate and hardworking team in person and learn about the individual strengths and unique experiences we will bring to this project.

We shared a delicious meal at The Woollen Mills during the lunch break. And then took a short walk through Dublin City Centre to a UNESCO site, The Icon Factory, where we gladly took in some vibrant Irish art and culture.

We then returned to the meeting and finalised all upcoming tasks. We left the meeting feeling very excited and confident that together we will deliver this project to a high standard and look forward to engaging the local community.
