We are thrilled to announce the launch of DIGITAL STORY, an innovative Erasmus+ project designed to inspire and empower young people from rural communities across Europe. This exciting initiative harnesses the transformative power of digital storytelling to help young people connect with their cultural heritage, develop vital skills, and enhance their employability. Through creativity, technology, and community engagement, DIGITAL STORY opens new doors for youth to express themselves and make a lasting impact.
What is DIGITAL STORY?
DIGITAL STORY is more than just a project—it’s a movement to empower youth, celebrate cultural heritage, and foster personal growth. The project brings together four diverse partner organizations from Lithuania, Latvia, Italy, and Ireland, providing a unique opportunity for young people and youth workers across Europe to come together, learn, and grow. By blending non-formal education, digital skills development, and storytelling, DIGITAL STORY helps participants uncover and share the rich traditions, histories, and stories of their local communities.
At its core, the project is designed to:
Explore Cultural Heritage: Young people will research and document their local traditions, stories, and histories, connecting with their roots and strengthening their sense of identity. By understanding the past, they can better navigate the future.
Develop Key Skills: Digital storytelling is an ideal tool to enhance communication, creativity, collaboration, and digital literacy. These essential skills not only encourage personal development but also build employability, ensuring youth are equipped for today’s ever-evolving job market.
Share Their Voices: In a world that often overlooks rural communities, DIGITAL STORY provides a platform for young people to share their unique perspectives. It’s an opportunity to give voice to stories that matter, both for local communities and for global audiences.
Project Activities
A variety of exciting activities are central to the DIGITAL STORY experience, each designed to empower participants and equip them with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed:
DIGITAL STORY Guide for Youth: A comprehensive resource to guide young people and youth workers on their digital storytelling journey. This guide will help them master the basics of storytelling and digital media, ensuring they have everything they need to create impactful, meaningful digital stories.
Training Course for Youth Workers: Youth workers play a critical role in supporting young people throughout the project. Through specialized training, they’ll gain valuable insights and methodologies to guide participants in their storytelling process and help them develop the skills needed to thrive.
Empowerment Workshops: On-the-ground workshops will give young people the opportunity to create their own digital stories, combining creativity with cultural exploration. These workshops will encourage personal expression, teamwork, and digital literacy, resulting in authentic stories that celebrate local heritage.
International Conference: The project culminates in a dynamic international conference where participants will come together to share the outcomes of their work. It’s a chance to celebrate achievements, exchange best practices, and inspire future action in youth work, education, and cultural heritage.
Why DIGITAL STORY?
In today’s world, young people in rural areas often face significant barriers to education, employment, and social inclusion. DIGITAL STORY seeks to break down these barriers by:
Promoting Active Citizenship: By empowering young people to take an active role in their communities, DIGITAL STORY helps them connect with their cultural roots and recognize the value of their contributions to society.
Enhancing Employability: In an increasingly digital world, skills such as creativity, communication, and digital literacy are highly valued by employers. DIGITAL STORY helps young people develop these skills, preparing them for future success.
Fostering Intercultural Dialogue: In our increasingly interconnected world, sharing stories and learning from one another is more important than ever. DIGITAL STORY encourages cross-cultural exchange, bringing young people from across Europe together to share their experiences, build friendships, and celebrate the diversity that makes each community unique.
Our Vision
At the heart of DIGITAL STORY is a vision for the future: one where young people from rural communities have the confidence, skills, and opportunities to thrive. By combining tradition with innovation, the project aims to create a brighter future where young people not only preserve their cultural heritage but also use digital storytelling to shape new narratives for themselves and their communities.
Through DIGITAL STORY, we seek to bridge generational gaps, strengthen community bonds, and unlock the potential of young people across Europe. By celebrating the stories that define us and empowering youth to share them, we hope to inspire a global movement of young people who are active, engaged, and ready to take on the challenges of tomorrow.
